Time to get GOLDEN! Get ready for our K-Pop Demon Hunters–themed Purim Spiel and Shabbat Dinner!
Join us on Friday, February 27, for a wildly fun, over-the-top evening of music, laughter, and community as we retell the Purim story anime-style, complete with bold characters, dramatic twists, heroic poses, and K-pop energy! The night begins with Pre-Shabbat Oneg at 6:00 PM, followed by Shabbat worship at 6:30 PM, led by our clergy. Then stick around for a themed congregational dinner that fuels our heroes before the action begins. You will also get the opportunity to explore Temple's Korean Market (시장에서 산 간식) to try snacks from the "Land of the Morning Calm."
At 7:45 PM, our fearless cast of volunteers — led by Cantor Seth Ettinger — will bring the Book of Esther to life in an interactive Purim Spiel packed with camp, comedy, and catchy tunes.
Written by Cantor Ettinger, this version blends anime flair, K-pop attitude, and classic Purim humor for a show that’s fun whether you’re five or ninety-five. Whether you’re a seasoned anime fan, a casual K-pop listener, or just here for the laughs, this Purim celebration has something for everyone. Expect big personalities, playful storytelling, and plenty of grogger-worthy moments because at Temple Beth-El, everyone gets to be part of the story.
Costumes are strongly encouraged! Come as a K-pop idol, demon hunter, hero, villain, or any Purim-inspired creation your imagination dreams up. Strike a pose at our photo backdrop. Dramatic flair highly encouraged!
6:00 PM - PreShabbat Oneg / 안식일 전 오네그 Power up before the show with some nosh and mingle with your fellow Temple heroes — no demon-hunting skills required.
6:30 PM - Shabbat Worship Service / 샤밧 예배 서비스 Take your seat as our clergy take the bimah for a spirited Shabbat service, setting the stage for a night of music, meaning, and a little dramatic flair.
7:15 PM - Shabbat Dinner / 샤바트 저녁 식사
Refuel with a crowd-pleasing congregational dinner worthy of a K-pop training montage: delicious, energizing, and perfect before the action continues. Explore Temple's Korean Market.
7:45 PM - Purim Spiel / 푸림 슈필 Experience the story of Esther, Mordechai, and Haman like never before, with a KPop-inspired twist!
