When we or those we love are facing the end of life, every decision and detail can seem overwhelming. Jewish traditions and practices offer us a sacred framework to help us navigate such challenging times with meaning and care.

Join our Temple Clergy, author Rebecca Soffer, and local experts for three informative sessions exploring how Jewish wisdom can support us through grief, mourning, and preparation.

This program series is generously sponsored by the Temple Beth-El Chesed Committee.
All sessions are free of charge, and participants may purchase The Modern Loss Handbook by Rebecca Soffer at a discounted rate below. Each session will be held at Temple Beth-El from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

Session Schedule:

  • January 13 – The Calendar of Jewish Mourning
How does Jewish tradition support us in our grief? Led by Temple Clergy.

  • January 20 – Navigating Loss with Rebecca Soffer
Author, journalist, and cofounder of Modern Loss, Rebecca Soffer, will share perspectives on navigating the long arc of grief. A book signing will follow. Rebecca Soffer's visit is generously underwritten by the Jean and Jesse Wulfe Religious Enhancement Fund.

  • January 27 – Planning Ahead
Join attorney Marty Roos and Porter Loring staff to discuss legal procedures and pre-funeral considerations.
